Lamellar ichthyosis


Ichthyosis results from an abnormality in the cornification (production of the outer dead layer) of the skin. Many different forms of ichthyosis are recognized. Notice the dry skin and scaly appearance. Ichthyosis is usually worse in the winter and is more severe over the legs.




Ichthyosis (fish scale disease) is a condition where the skin becomes dry and scaly. Ichthyosis results from an abnormality in the cornification (production of the outer dead layer) of the skin. Many different forms of ichthyosis are recognized; this is "lamellar ichthyosis". It is characterized by large, dark, plate-like scales. This condition is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.
